Editorial standards

Everything published under the blog, tutorials and comparisons is written by the person who builds Gitoryx: one independent developer, working on the client full time. There is no contract content team and no syndicated filler.

That is also the limit worth stating plainly. The experience behind these pages is the experience of building a Git client and using the competing ones seriously enough to compare them. It is not the experience of running a large engineering organisation, and we do not write as though it were.

Articles are credited to The Gitoryx team rather than a personal byline. The site is published by a registered French sole trader whose legal identity is on the about page; the decision not to attach a personal name to each article is a privacy one, not an attempt to look larger than we are.

Every client named in a comparison is installed and used, not read about. The baseline is the same across all of them: clone a repository with a long history and many branches, read the graph, stage part of a change, run an interactive rebase, resolve a merge conflict, and push a branch.

Where we describe a client as fast, heavy, cramped or awkward, that is a qualitative judgement from that session and we say so. We do not publish memory figures or timings as measurements unless they were measured; if a page gives a number, it came from a run, and if a page avoids numbers, that is why.

Feature claims about other tools are checked against the vendor's own documentation rather than against our memory of the product. This matters most for negative claims: saying a client cannot do something is the easiest way to be both wrong and self-serving, so those get checked before they are published.

Prices are the public list prices in US dollars before tax, read from the vendor's pricing page on the date shown on the article. Where a licence is per-platform, per-seat or non-commercial only, the page says so, because those conditions change the real cost more than the headline number does.

Pricing moves and pages go stale. The date on a comparison is the last time its prices were checked, not the last time any word on it changed.

We sell one of the tools that appears in these comparisons. That is a real conflict of interest and no methodology statement removes it. What we do instead is make it cheap for you to check us: every comparison names what the other tool does better, the scorecards record the rows the competitor wins, and the recommendation sections send you elsewhere when elsewhere is the better answer.

Nothing on this site is paid placement. No vendor has paid to appear, to rank, or to be described in a particular way, and there are no affiliate links in the comparisons.

When a page is wrong we change the page, and the update date moves with it. Substantive corrections to a factual claim about another product are noted in the text rather than quietly overwritten.

Drafting and editing assistance is used, the same way a spelling checker or an outline tool is. What is not delegated is the judgement: the testing, the claims about other products, the prices and the recommendations are checked by a person before publication, and that person is accountable for them.
